Mykonos has 2 ports, and knowing which is which saves a lot of confusion. The New Port at Tourlos, just north of Mykonos Town, is where every passenger ferry now arrives and leaves, and where most cruise ships dock. The Old Port sits right in the heart of Mykonos Town and is used by the boats to Delos, the Sea Bus, fishing boats and cruise ship tenders. This guide explains both Mykonos ports, how to get between them and into town, the ferries that sail from Mykonos, the cruise port and some practical tips for your arrival and departure.
Mykonos port at a glance
All ferries to and from Mykonos use the New Port at Tourlos, about 2 to 3 km north of Mykonos Town. The Old Port in town is for Delos boats, the Sea Bus and cruise tenders.
- New Port (Tourlos): every conventional and high speed ferry, and most cruise ships
- Old Port (Chora): boats to Delos, the Sea Bus, and tenders from cruise ships at anchor
- Sea Bus: 2 euros, about 10 minutes between the 2 ports, every 30 minutes from April to October
- Taxi to town: about 10 to 15 euros from the New Port
- Arrive: at least 45 minutes before your ferry in summer
Mykonos New Port and Old Port Explained
Until 2021, high speed ferries used the Old Port in Mykonos Town while the big conventional ferries used the New Port. That has changed. Today all passenger ferries, both high speed and conventional, use the New Port at Tourlos. Older guides and forum posts can still suggest otherwise, so do not be caught out. If your ticket says Mykonos, head for the New Port unless it clearly says something different.
| New Port (Tourlos) | Old Port (Chora) | |

Mykonos Sea Bus
The Sea Bus is a small boat that shuttles between the New Port and the Old Port. It costs 2 euros per person, takes around 10 minutes and runs every 30 minutes from April to October, with extra boats every 15 minutes when cruise ships are in. Boats leave the New Port from about 08:30 to 23:30 and the Old Port from about 09:00 to midnight. At the New Port it stops at the cruise dock and the marina, and in town it stops next to the Town Hall and near the KTEL bus station. You can buy tickets on board, and there is room for luggage.
KTEL Bus From the New Port
KTEL Mykonos runs buses between the New Port and the Old Port bus station, also called the North Station, roughly every hour in summer. The bus stop is close to the taxi rank at the port. From the Old Port station you can change for Agios Stefanos, Ano Mera, Elia and Kalafatis. For the south coast beaches, such as Ornos, Platis Gialos and Paradise, walk to Fabrika bus station in town. Our Mykonos bus timetable has the full summer schedule.
Taxis at Mykonos Port
The taxi rank sits right opposite the ferry exit at the New Port. A taxi to Mykonos Town costs about 10 to 15 euros. Mykonos has very few taxis for the number of visitors, so when a big ferry arrives in July or August the queue can be long. Pre booking a taxi or a hotel transfer makes a real difference in high season. See our Mykonos taxi guide for fares across the island.
| From the New Port to | Best option | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Mykonos Town, Old Port area | Sea Bus | 2 euros |
| Mykonos Town, Fabrika and Little Venice | Sea Bus or taxi | 2 euros, or 10 to 15 euros by taxi |
| Agios Stefanos | Walk or KTEL bus, it is very close | Low |
| Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise | Taxi, or Sea Bus then bus from Fabrika | About 20 to 35 euros by taxi |
| Mykonos Airport | Taxi | About 19 to 25 euros |
Ferries From Mykonos Port
Mykonos is one of the best connected islands in the Cyclades. In summer there are ferries to Athens, most of the central Cyclades and Crete, run by Blue Star Ferries, Seajets, Fast Ferries, Golden Star Ferries and others. The crossings to Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos are short, which makes Mykonos a great base for island hopping.
| Mykonos to | Fastest ferry | Slower ferry |
|---|---|---|
| Tinos | About 15 minutes | 30 to 35 minutes |
| Syros | 25 to 40 minutes | 50 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes |
| Naxos | 35 to 40 minutes | About 1 hour 15 minutes |
| Paros | About 40 minutes | Up to 1 hour 25 minutes |
| Andros | About 1 hour 15 minutes | 2 hours 20 to 2 hours 30 minutes |
| Ios | About 1 hour 15 minutes | Up to 3 hours 20 minutes |
| Santorini | About 1 hour 55 minutes | Up to 3 hours 15 minutes |
| Milos | About 2 hours 40 minutes | Up to 5 hours 15 minutes |
| Rafina (Athens) | About 1 hour 50 minutes | 4 hours 20 to 4 hours 30 minutes |
| Piraeus (Athens) | About 2 hours 40 minutes | 4 to 5 hours 50 minutes |

Boats to Delos From the Old Port
The only boats to the ancient island of Delos leave from the Old Port in Mykonos Town, not the New Port. The crossing takes about 30 minutes, and there are several departures each morning in season. Buy your boat ticket in advance in summer, and note that the entrance ticket to the archaeological site is separate. See our guide to the Mykonos to Delos boat.
Mykonos Cruise Port
Mykonos is one of the most visited cruise stops in the Aegean. Most cruise ships dock at the cruise pier at the New Port in Tourlos, while some anchor in the bay and bring passengers ashore by tender boat to the Old Port, right in Mykonos Town. Your cruise line will tell you which applies on the day.
| If your ship | You arrive at | Getting into town |
|---|---|---|
| Docks at the pier | New Port, Tourlos | Sea Bus every 15 minutes on cruise days, 2 euros, about 10 minutes. Some cruise lines also run their own shuttle bus. |
| Anchors in the bay | Old Port, by tender | You step ashore in Mykonos Town, a short walk from Little Venice and the windmills |
From the Old Port, the main sights of Mykonos Town are all within walking distance, including Little Venice, the windmills and the maze of lanes in Chora. Leave yourself a good margin to get back, as the Sea Bus and tenders get busy in the last hour before all aboard.
Facilities at Mykonos New Port

| Transport | Taxi rank, KTEL bus stop and Sea Bus station |
| Car and boat hire | Car hire and boat rental offices at the port |

Tips for Using Mykonos Port
- Go to the New Port for ferries. Since 2021 every passenger ferry uses Tourlos, whatever older guides say.
- Arrive at least 45 minutes early. Summer departures are busy, and the port gets crowded when several ferries leave close together.
- Pre book your taxi in high season. Queues at the taxi rank can be long when a big ferry comes in.
- Use the Sea Bus with luggage. It is cheap, quick and avoids the walk along the road.
- Remember Delos boats use the Old Port. Do not head to Tourlos for your Delos trip.
