Sifnos is best known as the food island of the Cyclades, but its beaches deserve just as much attention. The coastline wraps around a compact island with sandy bays on the south and west coasts, rocky coves on the northeast, and a handful of genuinely remote beaches that you need a boat or a long walk to reach.
The island has 2 main hubs. Kamares is the port village on the west coast, sitting at the end of a deep natural bay with its own sandy beach. Apollonia is the capital, perched in the hills in the centre of the island and connected to Kamares by a winding road. Most of the popular beaches are on the south coast, within a short bus ride or drive from Apollonia.
Sifnos is also one of the best walking islands in the Cyclades. Ancient flagstone paths connect the villages and several of them lead down to coastal coves, so you can combine a morning hike with an afternoon swim. Which Sifnos Beach Suits You
The main beach with everything you need: Platis Gialos Beach on the south coast is the longest and most organised beach on Sifnos. Sunbeds, tavernas, pottery workshops in the village behind it, and a long stretch of sand that stays busy but never feels overcrowded. The bus from Apollonia stops right here.
A beautiful bay with great food: Vathi Beach sits in a deep sheltered bay on the southwest coast, next to the village of Vathi. The sand is soft, the water is calm, and some of the best restaurants on the island line the waterfront. It is worth spending a whole day here.
Close to the port for a quick swim: Kamares Beach runs along the bay right in front of the port village. If your ferry arrives in the morning, you can be in the water within 5 minutes of stepping off the boat.
Something remote and wild: Vroulidia Beach on the south coast is reached by a dirt road and a steep path down. No facilities, no crowds, just a small sandy cove with crystal clear water and the feeling of having found somewhere secret.
Pottery village and a swim: Cheronissos Beach on the quiet north coast sits next to a tiny fishing village known for its pottery tradition. The beach is pebbly, the water is deep and clean, and there is a taverna serving fresh fish. It feels a long way from the tourist south coast.
A sheltered bay near Faros: Faros Beach on the southeast coast is actually a cluster of small beaches around the fishing village of Faros, including Glyfos, a narrow strip of sand between the rocks that is one of the prettiest swimming spots on the island.
Historic village then a beach: Apokofto Beach sits below the medieval village of Kastro, one of the most beautiful settlements in the Cyclades. Visit the old fortified village first, then walk down to the beach for a swim.

Planning Your Beach Days on Sifnos
The south coast beaches from Platis Gialos to Vathi are the easiest to reach by bus, and during summer the service runs frequently.
