At a glance: Southwestern Serifos, a short walk from the port at Livadi and around 5.3 kilometres from Chora. A small, relatively new settlement built along one of the island’s most popular sandy beaches, with rooms, tavernas and the only organised campsite on Serifos. Best suited to travellers who want an easy, walkable beach base just minutes from the ferry.
Is Livadakia worth visiting
Livadakia has grown up almost entirely around its beach, and that beach is genuinely one of the best on Serifos. It sits as the natural continuation of Livadi bay, less than a kilometre from the village and about half a nautical mile from the port, making it an unusually convenient stretch of sand for an island arrival. Golden sand, shallow, gradually deepening water and generous tamarisk shade give it a reputation as one of the most family friendly beaches on Serifos, backed by a run of rooms, hotels and the island’s only organised campsite. It suits travellers who want to be close to the ferry without giving up a proper beach holiday feel.
Highlights
- A long stretch of golden sand with shallow, gradually deepening water, well suited to families
- Generous natural shade from tamarisk trees along the beach
- The only organised campsite on Serifos, right beside the sand
- A short, easy walk from both Livadi village and the ferry port
- Tavernas and beach bars serving food and drinks directly on the sand
A young settlement grown from Livadi’s mining boom
Livadakia’s own story is closely tied to Livadi, the port village it extends from. Livadi itself was established around 1870, growing quickly once it became the headquarters of the Greek Mining Company, a role it held until the company’s decline in 1907. Livadakia developed later and more gradually, as a genuinely new settlement rather than an old village, filling in the shoreline to the west of Livadi as demand grew for accommodation close to both the port and the beach. That relatively recent growth explains its character today, a settlement shaped almost entirely around tourism and the sand, in contrast with the older mining and maritime history that built Livadi itself.

Where to eat
Livadakia has a good spread of tavernas and beach bars right along the sand, several with chairs extending onto the beach itself, making it easy to combine a swim with lunch or a cold drink. It is a relaxed, low effort place to eat without straying far from the water.
Where to stay
Livadakia suits travellers who want to stay directly on the beach, with a good choice of rooms and hotels alongside the island’s only organised campsite. Its short walk to Livadi port also makes it a practical base for arrivals and departures.
The beach at Livadakia
Livadakia’s beach is the whole reason the settlement exists, a long stretch of golden sand with shallow, family friendly water and plentiful tamarisk shade, widely considered one of the best and most popular beaches on Serifos.
Best time to visit
July and August bring the busiest crowds, given Livadakia’s popularity and its closeness to the port, so arriving early for a good spot on the sand pays off in peak season. Late spring and early autumn offer warm, swimmable water with a noticeably quieter beach.
