It is not a large island, so once you understand where the town, the port and the main beaches sit, getting around is simple. The ports and how the island is laid out
Mykonos has two ports, and knowing which is which saves confusion on arrival. The Old Port sits right by Mykonos Town and is used by smaller boats and the trips to Delos. The heart of the island is Mykonos Town, also called Chora, on the west coast, a maze of white lanes, the old windmills and the waterfront district of Little Venice. Most of the famous beaches line the south coast, which is sheltered from the wind, while the north coast is wilder and quieter. Inland sits the island’s second village, Ano Mera. Villages on the map
Mykonos really has two settlements. Mykonos Town, the capital, is where almost everything happens, the shopping, the dining and the nightlife, along with the landmark windmills and Little Venice, where the houses sit right on the water and the sunset draws a crowd. Beaches on the map
The south coast is where the famous Mykonos beaches line up, and the map is the easiest way to pick the one that suits you. Platis Gialos is a central family beach and the hub for the small water taxis that hop along the coast. Psarou is the glamorous one, Paraga and Super Paradise are the party beaches, and Elia is the longest sandy stretch on the island. For families, Ornos is close to town with calm water, and Kalo Livadi is a relaxed sandy bay further east.

Things to do on the map
The biggest day trip from Mykonos is the short boat to Delos, the sacred ancient island just to the west, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. How far is the town from the beaches on the map?
Most of the main beaches are a short drive or bus ride south of Mykonos Town, no more than fifteen to twenty minutes. On the map you can see how they cluster along the south coast, which is why the bus network and the water taxis make getting around so easy.
Do you need a car on Mykonos?
