Milos Airport, code MLO, is a tiny island airport on the flat land south east of Adamas, the main port of Milos. It only has domestic flights, mostly short hops from Athens on small propeller planes, but it is a quick and easy way to reach the island famous for Sarakiniko and Kleftiko if you would rather skip a long ferry ride. What surprises many visitors is how few taxis there are on Milos, so getting away from the terminal needs a little planning. This guide covers everything about Milos Airport, from flights and taxis to the bus, car hire and what to expect when you land.

Does Milos Have an Airport?
Yes. Milos Island National Airport opened in 1973, and its current terminal was added in October 1995. It is run by the Greek Civil Aviation Authority and only handles domestic flights. The runway is just over 1 km long, which limits it to small aircraft such as the Dash 8 and ATR 42, and the parking area has room for only one airliner of that size at a time. In 2018 the airport handled 77,501 passengers, a small number next to the hundreds of thousands who arrive by ferry each summer.
Plans were drawn up years ago for a new 2,000 metre runway and a much larger apron, which would allow jets and possibly international flights, but those plans were suspended for lack of funding. For now, Milos remains a small domestic airport, and that is unlikely to change in the next few seasons.
Milos Airport Code and Name
The Milos airport code is MLO, which you will see on your boarding pass and luggage tag. The ICAO code used by pilots is LGML. You may see the airport listed as Milos Island National Airport, Milos Airport or Milos Greece Airport. There is only one airport on the island, so they are all the same place.
Where Is Milos Airport?
The airport sits in the Zefyria area on the flat, low lying land south east of Adamas, not far from the salt pans and the beach at Achivadolimni near Milos Camping. Adamas, the port and the main base for most visitors, is about 10 minutes away by road. The popular villages in the north, Plaka and Pollonia, take a little longer.

Milos Airport Taxi
The biggest thing to know about taxis on Milos is that there are only around 15 of them for the whole island. A taxi may be waiting when a flight lands, but you cannot count on it, especially in July and August when the drivers are busy meeting ferries in Adamas. Book a taxi before you fly, or ask your hotel to arrange one. A taxi from the airport to Adamas costs about 15 to 20 euros, and to Pollonia about 30 to 35 euros. Our Milos taxi guide lists the numbers to call and more fares.
Milos Airport Bus
Milos Buses runs a summer service that links the airport with Adamas, as part of the route from Adamas to the airport, Milos Camping, Achivadolimni and Provatas beach on the south coast. The bus stop is about 100 metres from the terminal, the ride to Adamas takes 15 to 20 minutes and the fare is 2 euros per journey. There are only a few buses a day, and they do not run to the airport in winter. Times change through the season and are not always published online, so check the timetable posted at the main bus stop in the square in Adamas, or ask your hotel. From Adamas you can change onto buses to Plaka, Pollonia and Sarakiniko. See our Milos bus timetable for the other routes.
Milos Airport Transfers
With so few taxis on the island, a pre booked transfer is the safest way to reach your hotel, particularly if you are staying in Pollonia, Plaka or somewhere on the quieter west side. The driver will be waiting when you walk out of the terminal and will take you straight to your door for a price agreed in advance. Many Milos hotels and villa owners offer airport pick ups, so ask when you book your room.
Car Hire at Milos Airport
Car hire is the most popular way to get around Milos, and there are 2 car hire desks at the airport, with many local firms happy to meet your flight with a car. A car lets you reach the beaches and viewpoints that make Milos famous, from the white rocks of Sarakiniko to the coloured fishing garages at Klima and the south coast beaches such as Tsigrado and Firiplaka. Some beaches are down dirt roads, so check what your hire agreement allows. Book early for July and August, when cars on Milos sell out. UK visitors can drive in Greece on a UK photocard licence. The airport car park only has space for about 28 cars. See our guide to getting around Milos for more on driving, quad bikes and boat trips.
Flights to Milos
All flights to Milos Airport are domestic. Athens is by far the main route, and in summer small planes also link Milos with Mykonos and Santorini, which is handy for island hopping without the ferry.
| Route | Airlines | Flight time |
|---|---|---|
| Athens to Milos | Olympic Air, Sky Express | About 40 minutes |
| Santorini to Milos | Mysky | About 30 minutes |
| Mykonos to Milos | Mysky | About 45 minutes |

There are no direct flights from the UK to Milos. The most common routes are to fly to Athens and connect onto a Milos flight, or to fly to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus. Inside the Terminal
Milos Airport is very small, with a single hall that handles check in, security and arrivals. It is quiet for most of the day and briefly busy when a flight comes in or goes out.
| Facility | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Food and drink | A small café and canteen |
| Car hire | 2 car hire desks |
| Parking | A small car park for about 28 cars and 5 coaches |
| Shops and duty free | None |
| Lounge | None |
| Money | Bring cash or use the ATMs in Adamas |
Milos Airport Arrivals and Departures
Arriving at Milos takes minutes. You walk from the plane to the terminal, pick up your bags and head straight outside, as there is no passport control on domestic flights. The most important thing is to have your onward transport sorted before you land, whether that is a hire car, a booked taxi or a transfer.
For departures, around 1 hour before your flight is usually enough. The small propeller aircraft on Milos routes have tight baggage allowances and weight limits, so check yours before you pack. Strong winds can occasionally delay or cancel flights on this short runway, so leave plenty of time if you are connecting to an international flight in Athens. Check live Milos Airport arrivals and departures on your airline’s website or app.
Milos Airport to the Ferry Port
The ferry port is in Adamas, about 4.8 km from the airport, so connecting between a flight and a ferry is easy. A taxi takes about 10 minutes and costs 15 to 20 euros, but book it in advance. From Adamas, ferries run to Athens, Sifnos, Serifos, Folegandros, Santorini and the other Cyclades, and the small ferry to Kimolos leaves from Pollonia. See our ferry guides for Milos to Sifnos, Milos to Kimolos and the full list of Cyclades ferry routes.
