The water is exceptionally shallow with a very gradual slope that extends quite far out from the shore. July and August are optimal months with water temperatures between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius (73 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). May and early autumn in September and October remain swimmable with temperatures around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius (64 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit), though some swimmers find it a bit cool. November onwards the water becomes quite cold for most swimmers at around 16 to 17 degrees Celsius (61 to 63 degrees Fahrenheit).​

Galissas Beach is conveniently located approximately 7 to 9 kilometers southwest of Ermoupolis, the capital town of Syros. You can reach the beach through several transportation methods, making it accessible for all types of visitors.​

Public bus services are frequent and reliable, running regularly from Ermoupolis bus station beside the ferry quay. The journey takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. During peak season from June to September, buses run hourly or more frequently, making it easy to plan your day trip. The bus stop is conveniently located right beside the beach parking lot next to Hotel Benois.​

If you prefer to rent a car or scooter, road access is straightforward with well maintained roads leading directly to the beach. The roads are not particularly winding or difficult to navigate compared to some other island destinations. Parking is readily available with a large public parking lot adjacent to the beach, though during August when the island is busiest, arriving early is advisable to secure a good spot.​

Several taxis operate in the area and provide another convenient option for reaching the beach from Ermoupolis or other parts of the island. Boat access is also possible if you are exploring the coast by sea.

The difficulty level for accessing the beach is very easy, making it suitable for elderly visitors, people with limited mobility, and families with young children. Food and drink options are plentiful and conveniently located. The renowned aVentoura restaurant is the flagship beachfront establishment and comes highly recommended by both locals and visitors. This restaurant offers fresh seafood and traditional Greek cuisine at reasonable prices. Several other beach bars and cafes are located directly on the sand, offering refreshments and light meals while you relax. Just a short five minute walk from the beach, you will find additional tavernas and restaurants in the village of Galissas offering a wider variety of Greek cuisine at reasonable prices.​

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent in the organized sections of the beach. Prices typically range from 15 to 30 euros per set of two sunbeds with umbrella, depending on the location and proximity to the sea. The first row seats closest to the water command higher prices around 30 euros, while subsequent rows are less expensive. However, the beach also has large free areas where you can lay out your own towels or bring portable umbrellas at no cost, making it budget friendly if you prefer to skip the rental.​

The beach has both natural shade from tamarisk trees and man made structures. The tamarisk trees in the quieter section provide excellent natural protection from the sun throughout the day. The organized section has numerous umbrellas available for rent or you can bring your own umbrella.

Toilet facilities are available and well maintained. Shower areas and changing cabins are conveniently located for rinsing off sand and salt water. Fresh water fountains are available if you need to refill water bottles. A small supermarket and mini market are located nearby in the village where you can purchase snacks, drinks, and provisions.​

Water sports rentals are available directly on the beach, including canoes, paddle boards, water cycles, and other equipment. These rentals are particularly suitable for families and make for fun entertainment during your beach day. Windsurfing is available through the Windsurfing School for those with some experience or who wish to learn.​

Snorkeling is popular at Galissas Beach due to the exceptional water clarity and rocky formations in deeper areas. You can access snorkeling opportunities directly from the beach without needing a boat, making it very convenient. The shallow entry means you can wade out to deeper snorkeling areas easily.​

Professional diving services are available through the Syros Dive Center and Salt Water Divers Syros, which operate from nearby locations on Syros. These centers offer diving courses and guided dives for both beginners and experienced divers.​

Beach volleyball is available on the sand, with facilities set up for casual games and tournaments during summer.​

One of the most special features is the nearby Agia Pakou chapel, which sits atop a rocky hill overlooking the beach. A short walk of approximately 10 minutes takes you up the hillside to this charming white chapel with a steep but manageable climb. The best time to visit Galissas Beach depends on your preferences for crowds and weather. If you prefer quieter conditions, visit in May, early June, or September through early October. These months offer pleasant weather with warm water temperatures and fewer tourists. You will find the beach peaceful and relaxing during these periods.​

If you do not mind larger crowds and want the warmest water, July and August are ideal despite being busier. Arriving early in the morning, around 8 to 9 AM, helps you secure better parking and enjoy the beach before the afternoon crowds build up. Mid to late afternoon becomes increasingly busy, particularly in July and August.​

What to bring is important to ensure an enjoyable day. The sun in Greece is intense, so bring high SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and reapply it every two hours and after swimming. Consider also bringing protective clothing like a light colored hat, UV blocking sunglasses, and a lightweight cover up shirt. Bring plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated throughout the day, as dehydration can occur quickly in the intense sun. Pack snacks, light meals, or plan to eat at the beach restaurants. The capital town of Ermoupolis is only 9 kilometers away and offers significant historical and cultural attractions. Kini is a nearby beach village known for excellent seafood tavernas and a more bohemian atmosphere. It is very close to Galissas and makes an easy day trip by car or scooter.​

Other nearby beaches including Agathopes, Vari, Foinikas, and Posidonia are accessible by the local bus system for beach hopping if you wish to explore alternatives during your stay.
