The birthplace of Naxian kitron

Chalki is the historic home of kitron, a citrus liqueur distilled from the leaves of the citron tree and unique to Naxos. The Vallindras Distillery has operated here since 1896, when Markos Vallindras founded the business, exporting its first bottles in 1928 and still using a still dating from 1862. Visitors can see the original equipment and taste all three traditional varieties, green, white and yellow, ranging from sweet to notably strong.
