3. Dragon’s Cave (Drakondospilio)

The entrance is quite narrow and low so you might have to crouch down to get in. Once you are inside it opens up into larger chambers. It served as a refuge for local people in the past who hid there to escape from pirates. The cave is home to a rare species of cave cricket that lives only on this island. 5. Kaloritsa Cave

The full name is the Cave Monastery of Kaloritsa. Inside the cave you can see ancient frescoes painted on the rough rock walls. There is also a built wall and an altar. The history of this place dates back to the Byzantine era. It feels very spiritual and calm inside. The view from the opening of the cave is breathtaking. You can look out over the valley and see olive groves and small villages. Above the cave there are ruins of an old monastery complex. This cave monastery is located on the slopes of Mount Profitis Ilias. It is situated directly above the Bazeos Tower which is a famous castle near the village of Sangri. The location is central and overlooks the large plain of Tragea.

To visit Kaloritsa you should drive to Bazeos Tower which is on the road between Chora and the village of Filoti. You can park your car near the tower.
